GMNA GM4383 – Performance Specification for Non-Decorative Powder Coatings
Scope: This specification covers plastic powder coatings that are fused on application to properly prepared metal substrates to form a continuous, durable coating. The powders may be applied by electrostatic spray, fluidized bed, or a variation thereof.
GMNA GM4350M – Painted Part Performance Requirements
Scope: This standard covers laboratory test requirements for a number of classes of paint finishes commonly used for automobile components. This standard does not cover appearance requirements or processing parameters (exception: see Section 3.1.1) which are expected to be specified in material specifications (998XXXX) and is not intended to cover paint finishes as used in connection with vacuum deposited metal coatings and hot stamped coatings. For painted plastic parts only, the combinations of substrate, surface preparation and applied paints shall be used that are shown in GM Approved Paint on Parts Systems (APOPS) database. When APOPS testing is performed each test must be completed on a minimum of 3 samples, each obtained from separate parts. Parts which are source primed and subsequently top-coated at assembly plants shall be capable of accepting the specified topcoat paint system and meet all the test requirements of this standard.
GMNA GM4348M – Painted Parts Appearance Requirements
Scope: This standard describes the surface appearance and quality requirements for exterior painted parts. The requirements are described in terms of appearance attributes and surface blemishes for each zone within a part. The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that the level of final finish on GM vehicles meets or exceeds the level expected by our customers. This standard applies to both finished parts produced by suppliers and those topcoated in GM assembly plants.
GMNA 9984050 – Powder Coating-Small Parts
Scope: This specification covers the requirements for a black thermosetting powder paint This coating is intended to provide a smooth, hard, corrosion resistant finish over metallic surfaces which may or may not be subsequently topcoated. Applications include underhood, chassis, and interior components which have indirect or no UV exposure.
GMNA 9984138 – Machinable Epoxy Powder Coating
Scope: This specification covers the requirements for powder epoxy paint suitable for application to metal substrates by electrostatic spraying. Several specific approved products have cure temperatures as low as 120°C (denoted as `low cure¿ in MATSPC). The resultant paint film is intended to provide cosmetic corrosion resistance to exterior surfaces of components such as brackets, covers and cast iron engine blocks and heads.
GMNA 9984196 Document Information – Topcoat System, BC/CC, Powder Clearcoat
Scope: This specification covers the performance and qualification requirements for exterior basecoat/clearcoat systems comprised of high solids basecoat and high bake powder clearcoat enamel. Nominal volume solids as sprayed are 40% for the basecoat and 100% for the clearcoat.

Scope: This specification describes the requirements for a polyester powder topcoat to be used on exterior component parts.
GMNA 9984006 – Iron Phosphate
Scope: This specification covers the material and performance requirements of iron phosphate coatings. This coating is intended to provide a crystalline, corrosion resistant, paint adhesion promoting surface on bare steel.
GMNA 9984090 – Zinc Phosphate Conversion Coating – Immersion
Scope: Scope This specification covers the material and performance requirements for immersion applied zinc phosphate conversion coatings. These materials are intended for vehicle bodies and parts that will subsequently receive a cathodic electrocoat primer. Conversion coatings are intended to provide a crystalline, corrosion resistant, uniform, chemically converted, adhesion promoting surface on bare steel, electrogalvanized, galvanneal and aluminum substrates.
